Everytime i hear this song i think of my father.... I used to make him play the tape over and over lol. It was always Ribbon of Darkness and El Paso. Im glad to know others enjoy this as much as i do, no matter what the reason. Marty Robbins' music will always remain close to me as it is entwined with the memory of my father. R.I.P. JPH 58-03

I love Marty and have since I was around 12. He was one of the people who inspired me to become a singer and though my career has been in opera, I always come back to him. That said, check out the live version of Gordon Lightfoot singing this on the old Johnny Cash show. It's the only version I like better than this, though it's close! Marty has a "better" voice than Gordon, but something about Gord's voice fits the plaintive theme of this particular song better.

I listen to this many times a day it's wonderfull back in the good old days it's make my cry since my mother past away i get tears in my eyes marty robbins was a legend just like elvis,johnny cash,roy orbison voices like angels.
