Patty Loveless - Love Builds The Bridges (Pride Builds The Walls) (Only What I Feel)

(Jim McBride/Jerry Salley)

She's twistin' the ring on her finger
She's watchin' the clock on the wall
She's hopin' when it finally hits him
He's wrong
He'll come to his senses
And give her a call

Across town he's in a hotel room
He can't keep his eyes off the phone
He's thinking that soon she'll break down and call
To tell him she's sorry
And beg him back home

There's a lonesome fool waiting
On each end of the line
There's a measure of blame on both sides
Until each heart is willing
There's no hope at all
'Cause love builds the bridges
But pride builds the walls

The longer they wait on each other
The harder it gets to give in
They're too proud to see
They're just one call away
From putting their love back
Together again

There's a lonesome fool waiting
On each end of the line
There's a measure of blame on both sides
Until each heart is willing
There's no hope at all
'Cause love builds the bridges
But pride builds the walls

Until each heart is willing
There's no hope at all
'Cause love builds the bridges
But pride builds the walls

Most under-rated singer in Nashville. Oh that's right she left Nashville and moved to Georgia. Wish she'd come back to Nashville and try to chart one again.

I agree and it's stated as such that she wasn't marketed well. At the time Mary Capenter, Trisha and Kathy at times just overshadowed her. IMO Patty can sing as good and really better than all of them. She certainly had the purest voice. However with Patty's looks and sincere personality, she should have wiped the floor with all of those...Course I'm a man. Carpenter won over her so many times and I never got it. Politics and marketing no doubt. Pattys top 5 best female singers of all time.

Patty is such a sweetheart. The voice of an angel and the only other female vocalist I'd put in her category is Alison Kraus. Patty is in her 50's or close to it and her voice has only gotten better. And she's still a baby doll. She's destined to be a hall of famer!

i have no idea why patty's albums don't all go platinum. whoever does/did her marketing should be fired. she sounds more country than 95 percent of what's out there today. seems like it's always the kentucky girls that sound the most "country"
